At the 2014 Bronze Award Presentation Ceremony of the Hong Kong Award for Young People (HKAYP) Police Operating Authority (POA) held at the Police Sports and Recreation Club on May 10, a total of 181 young people were commended for their outstanding performances, including 18 police officers who recently completed foundation training. Nine other police officers were appointed Assistant Instructor.

Officiating at the ceremony were Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Lo Wai-chung, Director of Operations Wong Chi-hung, Chairman of the HKAYP Award Council, Mr Rock Chen, and Vice-chairman, Mr Lo Yan-lai.
 
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Lo pointed out that the HKAYP had a long history in providing young people with a platform to achieve their goals, rise to challenges, broaden their horizons and serve the community. He thanked Mr Rock Chen and Mr Lo Yan-lai for their continuous support for the POA as well as the volunteer instructors for their contributions.
 
In the ceremony, one of the awardees, Police Constable Kwan Ho-cheung from Central Division, shared his experience in achieving the Bronze Award while two Junior Police Call awardees treated the guests and awardees to a guitar and flute performance.
 
The 18 police Bronze Award winners are Chan Hon-kwan (YLDIV), Chan Chik-pui (TPDIV), Lam Suet-lee (SSDIV), Lam Kwok-hung (SSDIV), Li Wai-tat (TMDIV), Chu Chung-ming (KWCDIV), Ng Ming-chiu (STDIV), Suen Ho-yuen (TSTDIV), Wong Kwan-lun (YMTDIV), Yip Ching-yu (HHDIV), Li Hiu-tung, (SKDIV), Leung Kin-wo (TKODIV), Kwan Ho-cheung (CDIV), Lam Ka-kin (CWDIV), Wong Ka-yin (WDIV), Cheung Chi-kei (MEDIV), Tsoi Ming-yue (MSDIV) and Liu Ka-meng (MEDIV).
 
The Force started organising the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (predecessor of the HKAYP) activities at the former Police Cadet School in 1973. Established in 1979, the POA is one of the 18 operating authorities of the HKAYP. Police Public Relations Branch took over the programme in 2006 to coordinate relevant activities and hold the Bronze Award Presentation Ceremony annually to commend the awardees' endeavours and present certificates.
