Six members of the Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC), accompanied by two IPCC Deputy Secretary-Generals, Mr Daniel Mui and Ms Rebecca Luk, visited Central District on May 26 with a view to getting a better idea of police work and enhancing communication with Force members. Accompanying the IPCC members on the visit were Director of Management Services Chiu Wai-yin and Complaints & Internal Investigations Branch (C&IIB) Chief Superintendent Cheung Kin-kwong.

The visit commenced with the Deputy Officer-in-charge of the Police Negotiation Cadre, Superintendent Wong Chi-kwong, introducing the roles the Cadre had played in public events as well as the related challenges it had faced. After this presentation, the IPCC members met in an open forum the frontline officers who had regularly taken part in policing of public events.

During the open forum, the IPCC members listened to the officers recounting the difficulties and challenges they had faced and their experiences of policing of public events. The IPCC members and officers also discussed various issues and exchanged views and ideas.

The visit gave the IPCC members an opportunity to understand police work from the perspectives of a law enforcer, and enabled frontline officers to understand better the roles and functions of the IPCC.

C&IIB will continue to arrange more similar visits to other police formations for IPCC members to understanding better the challenges of police work, and strengthen communication with officers.
