An award presentation ceremony took place in City University of Hong Kong on June 27 to mark the successful conclusion of Shamshuipo District's (SSPODIST) "Stand by You Leadership Training Scheme".

SSPODIST Deputy District Commander, Senior Superintendent (SSP) Lau Wai-mun, Chairman of Shamshuipo District Fight Crime Committee, Mr Li Hon-hung, and Assistant District Social Welfare Officer, Ms Cheung Yun-ping, officiated at the ceremony before 350 guests.

Among the guests were the headmasters, teachers and students of the schools participating in the scheme, non-governmental organisation representatives and the volunteer teams of City University, Polytechnic University and SSPODIST. The officiating guests also presented awards to the participants and volunteers in recognition of their efforts over the past year.

Speaking at the ceremony, SSP Lau commended the headmasters, teachers and the volunteer teams of City University and Polytechnic University for participating in and promoting the project and particularly for sacrificing their time in guiding teenagers. She also thanked police volunteer team members, who are happy to see the youth develop morally, intellectually, physically and socially.

In conclusion, SSP Lau encouraged the youth to pass on the spirit of the scheme, behave as law-abiding citizens, and help maintain a harmonious and prosperous Hong Kong.

The scheme, adopting a multi-agency and community-based approach, is a key youth fight crime project of SSPODIST. It encourages the youth to participate in various activities, such as wilderness adventure, leadership training, visits to police formations and volunteering services in drug addiction treatment centres and hostels, with the aim of instilling positive values in the youth.
