The Road Safety Team of Traffic New Territories North (T NTN) and the Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol jointly hosted a New Territories North Safe Cycling Ambassadors Appointment cum Prize Presentation Ceremony on July 4, attracting about 450 participants.

Officiating at the ceremony were T NTN Acting Senior Superintendent Neil Dunn, Tai Po Divisional Commander Chan Sze-man, Tai Po Assistant District Officer, Miss Swing Yau, Chairman of Traffic and Transport Committee of Tai Po District Council (TPDC), Dr Lau Chee-sing, Chairman of Working Group on Tai Po Road Safety Campaign of TPDC, Mr Cheung Kwok-wai, Regional Commander of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (New Territories North), Mr Lai Tin-cheung, and Chief Executive of Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital and Tai Po Hospital, Dr Beatrice Cheng. Many Junior Police Call members and elderly patrol team members of the Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol were also present at the ceremony.

An artistic cycling performance marked the opening of the event. Following the performance, about 200 students from the primary and secondary schools in Tai Po made an oath to act as safe cycling ambassadors in the presence of the officiating guests. They will set an example of safe cycling and help the Road Safety Team disseminate safe cycling messages to their schoolmates, acquaintances and members of the public.

As "Cycling Safety" is the slogan for this year, Mr Kan Koon-hang, the third runner-up of Hong Kong Road Cycling National Championship (Road) 2014, gave a demonstration to reinforce this message.

Afterwards, the officiating guests proceeded to a cycle track to kick off a bicycle parade, during which about 100 supporters handed out publicity leaflets and souvenirs to the public.
