Marine Region and the Indian Coast Guard had a two-day exchange on August 6 and 7 as the latter's largest Offshore Patrol Vessel, "SARANG", visited Hong Kong for the first time.

The exchange programme started with an official visit by a delegation of the Indian Coast Guards to Marine Regional Headquarters. To explain the uniqueness of maritime policing in Hong Kong, Marine Region delivered a detailed presentation on policing strategies and the Central Command System. An exchange forum with Marine Department was also held for sharing good practices on pollution control.

Small Boats Division also gave a demonstration of high-speed interception, showing the capabilities and tactics to intercept a vessel traveling at high speed.

On the evening of August 6, the Indian Coast Guard hosted a reception on board the "SARANG".  Among those present were representatives from the Force, senior government officials, officers of the PLA Garrisons and consulate officials.

As a highlight of the exchange programme, 26 Marine Region officers joined a guided tour of the "SARANG", taking a close look at weaponry, a helicopter, navigational equipment, wheelhouse, engine rooms and crew cabins. The visit concluded with a presentation on the duties of the Indian Coast Guard. Overall, the two-day exchange was both highly informative and well received by all the parties concerned.
