Some police districts and divisions have started implementing the traditional Winter Precaution measures to protect life and property during the forthcoming festive season, and more districts and divisions are expected to follow suit.


HKI 'Operation EAGLEHUNT'


The Regional Crime Prevention Office of Hong Kong Island (HKI) Region launched "Operation EAGLEHUNT" on December 12 to remind the public to prevent theft and pickpocketing.


During the operation, crime prevention messages were disseminated in crowded places such as shopping malls, theme parks, MTR stations and Victoria Park, venue of the 50th Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo.


Supporting this publicity drive, the Vice-chairman of Teens and Elderly Mission Committee, Dr Liu Kai-ming, together with two committee members, Mr Lam Ping-chun and Mr David Tong, handed out calendars carrying crime prevention messages to the public. The teachers and students of Pui Kiu Middle School, Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps (606 Squadron) and other student volunteers also gave a helping hand as "Crime Prevention Pioneers".


MKDIST Campaigns


Mong Kok District (MKDIST) held three fight crime campaigns on December 14, 16 and 23 when Deputy District Commander Yau Siu-kei, Assistant District Commander (Operations) Steven Tait, together with Yau Tsim Mong District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC) Chairman, Mr Chan Siu-tong, committee members and MKDIST Senior Police Call (SPC) members, distributed crime prevention fliers and souvenirs to shop operators to remind them to pay more attention to shop security. The party also updated the public on the crime trends and modus operandi.


For enhancing public awareness of car theft, MKDIST has obtained permission from Transport Department for putting up crime prevention stickers on parking meters to remind vehicle owners and passengers to stay alert to theft.


SKDIV Neighbourhood Watch Scheme


On December 22, Acting Divisional Commander of Sai Kung Division (SKDIV) Chan So-yue, together with a District Councilor, Mr Li Ka-leung, and village representatives, mounted a crime prevention campaign in Sha Kok Mei Village, Sai Kung, with officers from Wong Tai Sin District Police Community Relations Office, Kowloon East Regional Crime Prevention Office (KE RCPO) and KE Police Tactical Unit assisting in distribution of anti-crime leaflets and souvenirs. SKDIV also stepped up regular village patrols with local stakeholders through the "Sai Kung Neighbourhood Watch Scheme".


SMPDIST Fight Crime Publicity Day


Sau Mau Ping District (SMPDIST), in co-operation with KE RCPO , Kwun Tong and Kowloon City district councils, Kwun Tong and Kowloon City DFCCs and volunteers from the Evergreen and Young of SPC, held "Year-end Winter Precaution Fight Crime Publicity Day" on December 12.


On the day, Deputy SMPDIST Commander Cheung Shun-ho, Ngau Tau Kok Divisional Commander Ip Ka-yee, Acting Sau Mau Ping Divisional Commander Wong Chung-on and Police Community Relations Officer Yiu Hon-sang headed for housing estates to disseminate information on the trends of phone scams, naked chat blackmail and burglary as well as the latest modus operandi, in a bid to remind residents to stay vigilant during the New Year.
