Since the first day as a member of the Force, I've never thought there will be a day I can receive my early advancement letter from my father who is a Sergeant in the Force. However, such day came a couple of weeks ago!

In addition to the presence of my supervisors and colleagues, it was a huge surprise for me when I heard my father, Sergeant Chan Lam-wong working as the Transport Sergeant of New Territories North Regional Headquarters, talking in my District Commander's (DC) office shortly before the start of the early advancement letter presentation ceremony. Later I realised it was my DC's, Mr Patrick Laidler, great idea to invite my father to witness one of the milestones of my police career. It was so meaningful and a great pleasure to have my father handing the advancement letter to me. Now I know he also feels proud like me.

Tai Po District is such a caring place to groom officers and I feel so lucky and grateful to have started my career there. I'm also grateful to the management for bringing a dual meaning to my early advancement. I will continue to strive for excellence in my police career.
