The Force recently won an "Honorable Recognition" in the 2016 Richard Goodman Strategic Planning Award for having a consistent structure with an innovative approach of integrating risk management into its Strategic Planning Process. This is the first time that a Hong Kong organisation has been presented with the international award.

The Award, which was organised by the Association for Strategic Planning, aimed to identify and honour organisations at the leading edge of exemplary strategic practice. The Force put forward its Strategic Planning and Management Process to the Richard Goodman Award Committee earlier. After careful examination by 11 world-renowned academics and consultants, the Force secured the title of "Honorable Recognition".

Director of Management Services Li Kin-fai welcomed the Award, "The Strategic Planning and Management Process was first implemented in the Force in 2001 with an aim to coordinating resources to respond effectively to the policing challenges ahead. Since then, the Force has been committed to strengthening its strategic planning capability which includes, inter alia, the incorporation of concepts and principles of Enterprise Risk Management.

"The 'Honorable Recognition' acknowledges that our efforts are focused in the right direction and our Strategic Planning and Management Process is credible. It also reflects that the three-year Strategic Directions and Strategic Action Plan have been effectively put into practice and have become part of our organisational culture. Overall, its success relies on the constant and continuous support of all Force units and members which I fully appreciate," Mr Li added.

Senior Superintendent of Service Quality Wing (SQW) Wong Wai and Superintendent SQW Lee Tak-chung attended an annual conference held by the organiser of the Award in San Francisco in March, and received the Award on behalf of the Force.
