A total of 230 young people were commended for their outstanding performance at the Bronze Award Presentation Ceremony of the Hong Kong Award for Young People (HKAYP) 2016 run by the Police Operating Authority (POA) on May 21.

They received certificates from Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Wong Chi-hung, Director of Operations Lau Yip-shing and the Chairman    and the Vice-Chairman of HKAYP Award Council, Mr Lo Yan-lai and Mr Kwok Wing-leung, at the Police Sports and Recreation Club.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Wong said the POA had established a partnership with the HKAYP for 43 years. Young people were encouraged to make good use of their leisure time for self-motivation, take up challenges, serve others as well as develop the value of bettering and perfecting themselves with a view to becoming a responsible and law-abiding youth leader.

The POA, as one of the 18 operating authorities of the HKAYP, organised 16 training courses last year, leading to three gold awardees, 34 silver awardees and 230 bronze awardees.

The HKAYP Scheme motivates young people aged between 14 and 25 to undertake a variety of challenging activities so as to build up self-confidence and develop their potential. Participants will be awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze Awards by completing activities in the categories of services, skills, expedition, physical recreation and residential project.

At the presentation ceremony, Junior Police Call (JPC) members from Tsuen Wan District and Kwai Tsing District livened up the atmosphere by performing African drums and hip-hop dance.
