Traffic New Territories South (NTS) started a trial of placing Cut-Out Traffic Police Officers along the North Lantau Highway in July as part of a road safety initiative.

Based on overseas successful experience, the cut-out officers are stationed at specific spots to remind drivers of their responsibilities and improve their alertness while driving. Standing almost 1.8 metres in height, the cut-outs are exact images of uniformed traffic officers.

Working with various stakeholders including Transport and Highways Departments, highway contractors and local community leaders, two pairs of cut-out officers are "on-duty" daily during the six-month trial at or in close proximity to several of the roadwork projects along the highway, as well as at known or potential accident sites.
