Graduates march past the reviewing stand

The Force has committed to maintaining the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong, the Commander-in-chief of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison, Mr Tan Benhong, said when inspecting a passing-out parade at the Hong Kong Police College on July 9.

Addressing the ceremony, Mr Tan said, “The rule of law is one of the core values of Hong Kong, and that the Police Force has always been one of the staunch guardians of this value. Since Hong Kong’s return to the Motherland, the Force has made significant contribution in firmly supporting the Special Administrative Region Government to administer the territory in accordance with the law, and fully implement the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ principle and the Basic Law for the sake of maintaining the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong.”

He pointed out that in the face of a fluctuating political and social environment in recent years, the Force has always upheld its professional attitude in strictly enforcing the law to resolve various challenges, including the Occupy Movement, the Mong Kok riot, the problem of illegal immigration and other crimes. The Force has won wide respect and applause for safeguarding the well-being of the public and maintaining social stability, he said.

Noting that the Hong Kong Garrison and the Force have all along maintained a good relationship, Mr Tan hoped      that the two sides would enhance communication and exchanges with a view to building a better future for Hong Kong. He also encouraged the graduates to rise to the challenges ahead, dedicate to work and continue to uphold the motto of “We serve with pride and care” for maintaining the rule of law and public safety.

A total of 34 probationary inspectors and 239 recruit constables took part in the passing-out parade on that day.
