Legislative Council (LegCo) Member Chan Han-pan and some Tsuen Wan District Councillors presented an appreciation letter to Divisional Commander of Marine West Division (MWDIV) Clive Walton and MWDIV officers on October 7 to compliment their efforts in preserving maritime ecology and protecting animal rights. Earlier on September 1 and 18, MWDIV officers intercepted a few vessels in connection with the "mercy release" of freshwater creatures into the sea.

Meanwhile, MWDIV Operations Support Sub-unit Commander Leung Yuen-ching held a seminar on protecting endangered maritime species for over 30 members of Hong Kong and Kowloon Fishermen Association on the same day. Officers from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department and an Inspector from Crime Marine Regional Headquarters were invited to explain the relevant legislation to the members.

On the other hand, MWDIV Assistant Divisional Commander (Operations) Ting Chi-kwok led Leung Yuen-ching and officers from the Police Community Relations Office and Intelligence Liaison Section to distribute marine safety leaflets to dolphin cruise boat operators at Tai O Pier on November 8. Mr Ting briefed the operators about the importance of keeping sufficient lifesaving equipment on board to uphold marine safety.
