The 11th Symposium on Police Studies of the Straits-cum-Hong Kong and Macao was successfully held at the Police Headquarters from November 8 to 10, bringing together about 150 law enforcement officers, experts and scholars from the Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao. This was the third time that the Police Association of China invited the Hong Kong Police Force to co-host the symposium.

With "The Prevention and Policing Co-operation against Cross-boundary Crimes" as its theme, the symposium provided an opportunity for the delegates from the four jurisdictions to share various strategies for the prevention of cross-boundary crimes, and to explore ways to strengthen policing collaboration.

The delegates discussed a wide spectrum of topics such as cyber crime, telecommunication fraud, commercial crime, dangerous drugs and counter-terrorism strategies. Twenty-eight research papers covering these topics were presented in seven plenary sessions, with commentaries delivered by seven experts. Director of the Police College Lau Chi-wai chaired the fourth plenary session whilst Senior Superintendent of the School of Specialised Learning Dr Chiu Sau-mee was one of the commentators in the fifth session. Furthermore, four Superintendents from Hong Kong, namely Dr Law Yuet-wing, Dr Young Chi-man, Dr Lai Chi-leung and Ms Leung Ka-mei, as well as Ms Yeung Suk-yee from the Immigration Department, presented their research papers at the symposium.

On the other hand, the Force arranged for the delegates to visit various Police units, including the School of Foundation Training, the Police Dog Unit, the Key Points and Search Division, the Marine Regional Headquarters as well as the Police Driving and Traffic Training Centre.

The symposium enabled the delegates to learn more about the latest policing practices, thus helping them to optimise the police work model.
