The Emergency Unit of Kowloon West (EU KW) co-ordinated a table-top exercise, codenamed "DAYTOWER", at KW Regional Headquarters on November 2 to boost the capability and co-ordination of various police units in dealing with a terrorist attack.

Also taking part in the exercise were officers from Mong Kok District, Railway District, Traffic KW, EU KW, Police Tactical Unit B Company, Kowloon Regional Command and Control Centre and Counter Terrorism Response Unit.

The exercise was kicked off by a phone call to the Police about a "Suspected Mentally Disorder Person Found" at Prince Edward MTR Station, which subsequently escalated into a hostage-taking incident as well as a bomb threat, together with terrorists launching attacks simultaneously at various locations. The respective unit commanders and frontline officers took immediate actions to tackle the incident.

The officers concerned said the exercise provided a good opportunity for them to test their operational procedures in facing the challenge of a terrorist attack.
