A total of 333 winners of the Junior Police Call (JPC) Awards 2016 were commended on May 13 for their contributions in disseminating fight crime messages, organising and participating in community services, promoting the JPC Scheme and developing their creativity in designing crime prevention tools.

They received trophies from Commissioner Lo Wai-chung, Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Lau Yip-shing, Chairperson of the JPC Central Advisory Board cum Regional Commander of Marine Region Lam Hiu-tong, Chairperson of the JPC Scheme cum Chief Superintendent of the Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) Fok Lok-sang, the Group General Manager and Chief Operating Officer, Asia Pacific of HSBC, Mr Raymond Cheng, and JPC Ambassador Mr Chan Yik-hei.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Fok said that the JPC Scheme aimed at nurturing young people's leadership skills and their sense of social responsibility. The Force also hoped to inculcate positive values in JPC members and trained them to become future leaders.

On the other hand, the JPC Awards Scheme is organised by the Force with the support of HSBC. In addition to the JPC Awards, the Fight Crime by Technology and E-generation Competition was introduced this year to encourage youngsters to apply innovative technology in crime prevention. Both the awards scheme and the competition covered five categories, namely the Best JPC Member, the Best JPC Leader/Advanced Leader, the Best JPC School Club (Primary School), the Best JPC School Club (Secondary School) and the Best JPC District Council.

A selection panel comprising representatives from the PPRB, HSBC and JPC Central Advisory Board picked the winners from a number of candidates recommended by police districts.

For the JPC Awards, Chung Oi-ling from Shum Shui Po District was selected as the Best JPC Member while Li Pei-yee from Kowloon City District was chosen as the Best JPC Leader. The SKH Kei Wing Primary School in Mong Kok District (MKDIST) and the Tsuen Wan Government Secondary School in Tsuen Wan District won the Best JPC School Club (Primary School) and the Best JPC School Club (Secondary School) Awards respectively. The Best JPC District Council Award went to Shum Shui Po JPC District Council.

With regard to the Fight Crime by Technology and E-generation Competition, Chan Chi-hin from MKDIST and Yeung Chung-ting from Border District were selected as the Best JPC Member and the Best JPC Leader separately. The Best JPC School Club (Primary School), the Best JPC School Club (Secondary School) and the Best JPC District Council Awards went to Sau Ming Primary School in Sau Mau Ping District, Pentecostal Lam Hon Kwong School in Sha Tin District and Tai Po JPC District Council respectively.
