Shatin District (STDIST) Commander Kwan Chui-ching appointed five Mainland students of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on June 12 as Fight Crime Ambassadors to assist in disseminating crime prevention messages to other Mainland students.


Apart from officers from STDIST and Ma On Shan Division, other guests attending the appointment ceremony included the Associate Vice-President of the CUHK, Professor Dennis Ng; the Director of Security and Transport of the CUHK, Mr Simon Lee; the Director of Communications and Public Relations of the CUHK, Ms Cheung Wang-yim; and the Chairman of Shatin District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC), Mr Wong Ka-wing.


On the other hand, STDIST and the CUHK established the Anti Telephone Deception Briefing Team last year with an aim to raising students' awareness on telephone deception. The team expanded its network with the CUHK community via social media platforms. In May this year, the team produced a video in collaboration with the CUHK and the Shatin DFCC on common telephone deception methods. The video has been uploaded to the social media of the CUHK and HKP Facebook.


In a related development, the Police Community Relations Office of Eastern District (EDIST) rolled out a publicity campaign on road safety and prevention of phone scam at the junction of Siu Sai Wan Road and Harmony Road in Chai Wan on May 18. Eastern DFCC member Mr Leung Kwok-hung, Senior Police Call members of EDIST joined beat officers of Chai Wan Police Station to distribute publicity leaflets to passers-by.
