The Junior Police Call Permanent Activity Centre and Integrated Youth Training Camp at Pat Heung (JPC@Pat Heung) in Yuen Long was officially opened by Chief Executive (CE) Mrs Carrie Lam, Secretary for Security Mr Lee Ka-chiu and Commissioner Lo Wai-chung on August 10. The ceremony was one of the celebration events to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Mrs Lam said in her speech that our society must nurture the younger generation and develop in them a positive outlook to life and a passion to serve the community, an idea which she has mentioned in her manifesto for the CE Election. Noting that we should understand the feelings and needs of young people and support them in realising their potential, she said that the JPC@Pat Heung would connect with youngsters to build their future.

Also speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Lo said that the JPC@Pat Heung covers a wide range of facilities to provide the youth with discipline, physical fitness and team building training to boost their awareness of crime prevention, social responsibility and leadership skills, as well as to foster positive values such as integrity and respect to others. He also thanked the government departments and community stakeholders concerned for their support to the JPC Scheme and the JPC@Pat Heung.

The officiating guests also inspected the centre's indoor training facilities, such as the Crime Scene Investigation Training Room and Fingerprint Identification Workshop. They then took part in a tree planting activity to commemorate the official opening of the JPC@Pat Heung. About 150 guests including representatives from government departments, JPC and Senior Police Call (SPC) Central Advisory Board members and Honorary Presidents of JPC in different districts attended the opening ceremony.

Meanwhile, the ceremony featured many activities for about 270 members of JPC and SPC. One of these activities was a career-oriented training programme in which representatives from five disciplined services shared their work experience and interview preparations with Non-ethnic Chinese students.

The JPC@Pat Heung aims to serve members of JPC and SPC, youth groups and ethnic minorities. Occupying an area of about 29 000 square metres, the campsite is equipped with a number of large-scale outdoor training facilities, such as a circuit training area, a high-altitude rope course and zip line as well as an artificial turf pitch.
