Chief Secretary for Administration Mr Cheung Kin-chung, Acting Secretary for Security Mr Au Chi-kwong and Acting Commissioner Lau Yip-shing visited the Junior Police Call (JPC) Fight Crime Summer Camp 2017 at Wu Kwai Sha Youth Village on August 16. About 1 800 JPC members participated in the camp held from August 15 to 18.

The main theme of this year's summer camp was "Youth leaders, Crime fighters. Abiding by the law, Respecting the others". The officiating guests, by presiding over the ceremony, called on young people to abide by the law and respect the others with a view to nurturing them to become crime fighting partners and future leaders.

The camp not only featured dissemination of crime prevention knowledge, career planning sessions, diversified development opportunities and promotion of environmental awareness, but also incorporated the element of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland. Some of these messages were spread through a "Bring Your Own Bag" (BYOB) design competition and a booth design competition. The camp also covered an exhibition on the "JPC Time Hallway" to introduce the key JPC projects over the past 20 years.

The winner, first-runner up and second runner-up of the BYOB design competition were Shatin District, Sau Mau Ping District and Tai Po District respectively. For the booth design competition, Wong Tai Sin District, Yau Tsim District and Central District were the winner and the first and second runners-up respectively.

In order to enhance the environmental awareness of the JPC members, the Lung Fu Shan Environmental Education Centre of the University of Hong Kong, the Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, WWF-Hong Kong and the Eco-education & Resources Centre were invited to conduct a seminar and environmental workshops in the camp. In the candle-making workshop, the JPC members were taught to recycle the palm oil pollutants collected from oil-clogged beaches by way of making candles for charitable purposes.

Meanwhile, the JPC invited the teenagers of the Evangel Children's Home and 20 Junior Anti-crime Pioneers of the Macao Judicial Police Department to exchange insights with the campers and to join together in mapping the way forward of youth engagement work.

The annual JPC Fight Crime Summer Camp is organised by the Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) to bring crime prevention and anti-drug information to JPC members through a range of activities and to help them develop positive values. In a bid to assist the JPC members to explore their career development, representatives of an airline company, the Police Magic Club, the Police Handicraft Club, JPC Fellows, JPC Ambassador Mr Chan Yik-hei as well as bowling athlete Mr Wu Siu-hong were invited to speak at sharing sessions with the campers.
