2017 is a meaningful year for the Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB). Following the establishment of the Fraud and Money Laundering Intelligence Taskforce and the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre, the year also marks the 70th anniversary of the CCB. To commemorate this special occasion, the CCB organised a celebratory exhibition and a banquet.

Staged at the Police Museum at the Peak, the CCB 70th Anniversary Exhibition was opened to the public on September 22 and would last until November 30. Chief Superintendent of the CCB Wong Ying-wai introduced the highlights of the exhibition to the guests and the media at an opening ceremony. Then, Chief Inspector Cheng Ka-wai and Inspector Lio Wai-lon acted as museum docents to guide the guests through CCB's history.

The exhibition sets forth the major changes in and challenges faced by the CCB in the past seven decades and a number of serious commercial fraud and counterfeiting cases, such as the collapse of the Overseas Trust Bank in 1985 and Ms Nina Wang's case in 2010. Also on display is a collection of never-before-exhibited artefacts, including counterfeit banknotes, forged documents, prototypes of master dies and counterfeit banknote printing machines.

Meanwhile, a roving exhibition will be held at the six Regional Headquarters and the Force Library for Force members to review CCB's history.

As for the CCB 70th Anniversary Banquet, more than 300 guests, including counterparts in overseas law enforcement authorities, officials of major consulates in Hong Kong, representatives from the Department of Justice, local banks and credit card companies as well as past and incumbent CCB officers, will be invited to witness the historic occasion.
