The Probationary Inspector Training Division of the Police College ran a training programme on Public Order Policing Tactics from September 11 to 15 for probationary inspectors (PIs) and recruit police constables (RPCs). A media training session had been added to this regular programme to meet the increasing public expectations on policing work.

After learning the principles governing the handling of public events, the PIs led the RPCs to practise the strategies and techniques of crowd management. A Police Tactical Unit training company and the Regional Public Order Event Investigation Team were invited to take part in a joint exercise of the programme.

In addition, the Media Relations Section of the Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) was invited to play the role of reporters and a Regional Media Liaison Team in a simulated media conference and stand-up briefing. Afterwards, a sharing session among PPRB staff, college instructors and the trainees was conducted regarding the skills in responding to the media. The programme enabled the trainees to be more confident when handling public events.
