Indian Recruit Police Constables Mukhjot Kaur and Mandeep Singh, who are members of the Project Gemstone of Yau Tsim District (YTDIST), joined the Force after a passing-out parade at the Auxiliary Police Force Headquarters on August 26, bringing the number of Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) members joining the Force through the project to 10.

At the invitation of YTDIST, Chairman of India Club Mr Nanu Lachman, Chairman of the Sikh Temple Mr Avtar Singh, Board Member of the Sikh Temple Mr Gurdev Singh and Chairman of YTDIST Junior Police Call Honorary President Council attended the passing-out parade. They expressed gratitude to the Force for organising various training projects for NEC youngsters who are interested in joining the Force to serve the community.

Both Ms Kaur and Mr Singh were born and educated in Hong Kong. They can speak English, Chinese and Hindi. Studying in local universities, they joined the Project Gemstone to brush up their Chinese proficiency and communication skills. They have been posted to Tsim Sha Tsui Division and Mong Kok District respectively. They hope to act as a bridge between the Force, the public and the NEC community, and during their spare time they will give assistance to other Project Gemstone members who wish to join the Force or other government departments.
