Commissioner Lo Wai-chung led Force directorate officers and representatives from Major Formations, Regions, Districts and Force staff associations to bid farewell to Mr Lum at the funeral parlour.

In memory of Ah Hoi

Mr Lum, also known as Ah Hoi, joined the Force in 1988. With 30 years of policing experience, he had all along shown great enthusiasm and passion for his work and was highly committed to his duties. He was held in high regard by his colleagues and friends. They remembered Ah Hoi as a candid, impartial and kind-hearted man, always wearing a reassuring smile.

Being a veteran officer, he did not put on airs and graces and always lent others a helping hand. He never judged others rashly. Not only did he guide his peers, but he also set a good example for other officers. This has earned him the compliments and respect of his colleagues.

One of Ah Hoi's colleagues thanked Ah Hoi for encouraging him to aim high in the police career. The colleague recalled the days when they first met in a divisional patrol sub-unit. They were on motorcycle patrol together and he learned a lot from Ah Hoi. After transferring to different teams, they met again in the Traffic stream several years later and they enjoyed talking about the good old days. Ah Hoi encouraged him to work hard to become his supervisor one day. Eventually, the colleague managed to become Ah Hoi's supervisor and they worked side by side in the Traffic stream again. He was harrowed to hear that Ah Hoi was gone in an accident. He paid tribute to Ah Hoi, who endeavoured to uphold the motto of "Life affects life" in the career.

Mr Lum's family thanked the Chief Executive, various government officials and the community for their support and condolences. They also expressed their gratitude to the Commissioner and his colleagues for holding a funeral with full Police honours for Ah Hoi.
