Commissioner Lo Wai-chung issued a message to all Force members on July 29, in which he said, "Starting from June 9, Operation TIDERIDER has been mounted for 50 days. A series of large-scale public events have been posing an unparalleled challenge to the Force.

"In the past month or so, officers are required to work for prolonged hours and are often subject to fierce attacks by protesters, sometimes leading to injuries of some officers. Last weekend, many of you needed to wear respirators for a long time on operation ground under the hot and humid weather. Your exceptional level of professionalism and courage displayed successfully restored public order without causing a large amount of casualties. Officers' enormous contribution in this regard is obvious in the eyes of the public, for which I am really proud of.

"As a member of the Force, I share your pain and sorrow about any lawless behaviours, brutal attacks on our officers and groundless accusations against the Force over the period. I, together with the Force management, will always stand by you and pay our utmost effort to overcome the challenges ahead, despite any adversities we face.

"Finally, I urge all of you to stay united in this testing period and remain committed to our sworn duties in order to fight for our home city. I once again convey my heartfelt gratitude to you all for the hard work and contribution over the period and I appeal for your persistence in safeguarding the rule of law in Hong Kong."
