Deputy Commissioner (National Security) (DCP NS) Lau Chi-wai inspected a passing-out parade as the Reviewing Officer of 70 Recruit Auxiliary Police Constables on March 25. They came from all walks of life, including civil servants, education workers, staff of private enterprises and students joining via the Auxiliary Undergraduate Scheme. DCP NS believes that the diverse background and rich social experience of the officers are the unique advantages of the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force (HKAPF). When the auxiliary members are on duty, they can make use of their professional knowledge and experience to assist frontline police work. She takes much pride in the recruits’ determination to uphold the law and protect citizens’ lives and property.

In her speech, DCP NS emphasised that the Force encountered many difficult challenges in recent years, and the HKAPF was the most valuable supporting power. The Force had been under enormous pressure in human resources since Operation SOLARPEAK, Operation TIDERIDER and the epidemic. Thanks to the support of the auxiliary members and their active reporting on duty, the Force could maintain its high-quality services. The spirit of “regular and auxiliary members are a family” was fully demonstrated.

She also mentioned that the Force should do its best in safeguarding national security. Every member of the Force should perform their duties individually and cooperate with other members collectively. Given their double identity of both a law enforcement officer and an ordinary citizen in their occupations, they have a wider interface with the general public when compared with members of the regular Force. Auxiliary members can utilise this advantage to promote national security to their colleagues, relatives and friends to raise their law-abiding awareness and consciousness in maintaining national security.

DCP NS finally encouraged the graduates that “one drop of water cannot relieve the drought, but countless drops can make an ocean.” As long as Force members perform their duties well and weave a defense network to safeguard national security, members of the public can live and work in peace and contentment. At the same time, the Force can contribute to the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and the great rejuvenation of the nation.
