The JPC x BOC STEM-Up Innovation and Technology Competition Award Presentation Ceremony 2022, an event organised by the Junior Police Call (JPC) and sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) for the second time, was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on April 1. A total of 76 prizes were presented to 155 winners. More than 1 500 students from 190 primary and secondary schools participated in the competition this year.
The Safest City Award, which was related to police work, was included in the competition this year to let young people showcase new ideas on crime prevention and road safety improvement for people to live in a safer and more stable society in the future. In developing their entries, students learnt how to apply technology to various aspects of daily life, such as medical applications, improving hygiene environment and saving lives. They had to think, try and test again and again before they could successfully complete their entries. The winners were grateful to their parents and schools for supporting and encouraging them to join the competition and pursue continuous improvement.
In line with the theme, an Innovation and Technology Carnival was featured on April 1 and 2 for students from participating schools to display and present their winning entries. Many activities with innovative and technological elements, including demonstrations on the application of police technology, augmented reality/virtual reality games, art creation and sports using technology were added to the carnival for participants to experience the fun of technology themselves.
JPC has introduced the new strategy “IDEAS@JPC” since 2021, with the letters “IDEAS” which stand for Innovation, Discipline, Exposure, Adventure and Synergy to summarise all JPC activities. As a flagship event under “Innovation”, the competition inspired young people’s creative thinking and encouraged their problem-solving and logical reasoning skills to build a safe and stable smart city together.
