In memory of the late Sir Shiu-kin Tang and to thank Sir Shiu-kin’s family for their continuous support to the Force, the annual Display of the Mace Ceremony was held at the Police College on June 19. Commissioner Siu Chak-yee officiated at the ceremony, the attending guests of which included Sir Shiu-kin’s children, Mr Richard Tang and Ms Yvonne Tang.

In his speech, the Commissioner recalled Sir Shiu-kin’s generosity in his lifetime and expressed gratitude to his family for their continuous support to the Force. To start the ceremony, representatives of the Police Band placed the two silver maces on a stack of traditional drums, followed with a minute of silence. A selection of music was performed subsequently by the Police Band. Before conclusion of the ceremony, the Commissioner presented a certificate of appointment to Mr Richard Tang to re-appoint him as the Honorary President of the Police Band to thank him for his full support for the Band.

The two silver maces displayed at the ceremony, which have been donated by Sir Shiu-kin’s family to symbolise his close relationship and deep affection with the Force, are paraded with the Police Band at major official functions of the Force and the government.
