In view of the wounding case that occurred earlier, District Commander of Shum Shui Po District (SSPODIST) Chu Man-lung and Hospital Chief Executive of Kwai Chung Hospital Dr Desmond Nguyen, together with his team, had a meeting in Cheung Sha Wan Police Station on June 14 to discuss how to increase frontline police officers’ capability to handle and support mentally incapacitated persons (MIP).

On July 6, Kwai Chung Hospital ran the Workshop on Handling and Support for MIP for officers of SSPODIST, Operations Wing of Kowloon West (KW) and Emergency Unit of KW for the first time. In the workshop, officers were briefed on how to identify different types of mental illness and the techniques to handle suspected MIP. The sharing of crisis intervention incidents and relevant cases helped the officers enhance their professionalism and reduce the risks of unfortunate incidents. Through this workshop, SSPODIST hopes to improve the officers’ professional capability and enhance the cooperation and communication among the Force, medical institutions and the community to ensure social stability and promote the positive image of the Force.
