In the digital age, digital evidence has become an essential part of evidence collection that facilitates criminal investigation and prosecution significantly. To cater for policing needs in the digital age, Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) has established the state-of-the-art infrastructure – Digital Forensics Complex (DFC), which has commenced operation since July 10.

DFC occupies an area of 480 metre square on 7/F, Arsenal House, Police Headquarters. It replaces the Computer Forensics Laboratory, which has been used for almost 20 years. DFC is positioned to be the Force’s centralised hub for digital forensics examinations and data analysis to facilitate case investigation, examination, data analysis, digital evidence review and exhibit management. By streamlining the workflow and deploying innovative technologies, DFC seeks to enhance collaboration effectiveness and data analytic capabilities for improving examination effects. DFC also provides effective and professional digital forensics examination services to strengthen the efficiency of the Force’s criminal investigation.

Supported with the Force’s designated Dark Fibre Network and the latest network infrastructure, connections between DFC and Regional Digital Forensics Laboratories to be set up gradually will be established by stages to enhance the ability of collaborative investigation and data exchange. Frontline units will be able to review digital evidence in a convenient and timely manner, thereby accelerating their further investigation and prosecution procedures. CSTCB will keep upgrading systems deployed in DFC in the light of rapid technological developments, and strive to foster the Force’s capabilities in tackling technology crimes.
