Summer Day Camp

The Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) held its Summer Day Camp, which was joined by 200 mentors and mentees, at the Hong Kong Police College (HKPC) on August 5. PMP Head Mentor cum Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Chan Man-tak gave an opening speech. As the secret guest, Commissioner Siu Chak-yee not only shared his personal adversities and experiences during his university years to inspire the mentees to pursue their aspirations courageously, but also hosted the ice-breaking game to mingle with the mentors and mentees.

Guided by their mentors, the mentees engaged in real-life detective games and the “College Hunt” challenge. The mentees divided themselves into groups to accomplish the tasks that assessed their physical prowess, police knowledge and team spirit. To facilitate the mentees’ preparation for applying to join the Force, the Recruitment Division even invited two probationary inspectors (PI) to share their journeys from joining PMP to becoming Force members.

One Day as a PI

30 PMP mentees were selected to join the “One Day as a PI” training camp held between August 4 and 5 to experience personally the training regimen of PI at HKPC. The camp encompassed Chinese-style foot drill and physical fitness training, attending lecture alongside PI trainees and residing in the barracks for a night. Live ammunition shooting demonstration was introduced for the first time to providing mentees with a comprehensive understanding of genuine PI training. The mentees said that the training content not only pushed their personal limits but also deepened their understanding about PI training and strengthened their determination to pursue a career in the Force.

The then Deputy Commissioner (Management) Chow Yat-ming attended and delivered a motivational speech. He pointed out that the PI training lasted much longer than the camp. The mentees were expected to join the training wholeheartedly and recognise the importance of personal goal and intrinsic value of teamwork so that they would become devoted and courageous police officers in the future.
