Following social normalisation and border reopening, burglary cases soared significantly across districts. Hence, Tseung Kwan O District (TKODIST) has formed its Rural Patrol Cadre (RPC) since August, hoping that resources can be deployed rapidly to rural area for tracking and locating the culprits once a rural burglary case is reported. The duties of RPC TKODIST include routine patrol at rural area and search for hideouts of illegal immigrants. To minimise the impact on daily policing, members of RPC are selected from Task Force Sub-units and Patrol Sub-units and in the form of secondary duty. They would act in accordance with the latest crime trend and vulnerable locations, spontaneously and flexibly be deployed for sweeping and ambushing operations deep into the woods.

In addition to high-profile patrol, RPC TKODIST may use technology such as thermo-detector and night-vision binoculars of small unmanned aircraft to target relevant crime. Officers of RPC TKODIST would also mount regular anti-burglary exercise with Government Flying Service and other police units, such as the Police Tactical Unit and Police Dog Unit of Kowloon East, to enhance co-ordination across different units and strengthen the response capabilities of RPC members under different circumstances and topographical situations.

TKODIST will continue maintaining close liaison with the community and making target-specific deployment, together with spontaneous high-profile patrol, joint operation with other departments and use of the latest technology, to combat burglary jointly with the related stakeholders.
