The Knowledge Management Ambassadors of Hong Kong Island (HKI) organised a legal knowledge sharing seminar at the Police Headquarters on August 24. Former Deputy High Court Judge Mr Wong Man-kit, S.C. and former Deputy Special Magistrate Ms Li Wing-man were invited to serve as guest speakers. The theme of the seminar was “Points to Note in Testimony and Trial Procedures”. Over 130 frontline officers, including officers from the uniform branch, criminal investigations, traffic, and auxiliary police, attended the seminar.

In the seminar, the two guest speakers summarised their extensive experience in the legal field and reminded police officers of the points to note in giving testimony in court, tips in trial preparation and common mistakes to avoid, as well as memorable cases they had handled. Mr Wong highlighted the importance of “sincerity in giving testimony”, which means that the witness must provide accurate and truthful statements when giving evidence to ensure fairness of the judiciary. Moreover, each case bears its unique features. Some seemingly “minor” cases may actually have a significant impact on people’s daily life. As members of a professional law enforcement agency, Force officers need to conduct investigation in a committed and perseverant manner, whether the case in question is considered a “major” one or otherwise by the public.

The seminar provided an effective platform for officers to deepen their understanding of court procedures through interactive discussion. The seminar will be uploaded to P-TV for access of all officers.
