ICTU

In addition to the earlier publicity campaign targeting the taxi industry, the Inter-departmental Counter Terrorism Unit (ICTU) has launched an initiative named “Accurate Pre-Declaration, Spot and Report” for the logistics sector since September. The kick-off ceremony of the campaign was held at the meeting of the Air Cargo Customer Liaison Group on September 6.

During the meeting, Chief Inspector of ICTU Yuen Ka-yi shared safety messages and introduced the “Accurate Pre-Declaration, Spot and Report” initiative to the participants, encouraging the sector to make proper customs declarations and timely report terrorism or violence. Besides, ICTU and Customs and Excise Department representatives presented certificates of appreciation to 16 personnel of the sector to recognise their active participation and support to the campaign.

Moreover, ICTU officers organised a briefing on October 10 for frontline staff of a courier company participating in the campaign to highlight the importance of accurate customs declarations and to strengthen their ability to identify suspicious activities. ICTU will continue conducting similar briefings to the participating companies, aiming to further enhance the sector’s security awareness.

PTU

Police Tactical Unit Headquarters (PTU) and Sham Shui Po District conducted a counter-terrorism exercise at CCC Kei Chun Primary School on September 26. More than 200 officers and 730 teachers and students took part in the exercise. The officers taught the teachers and students that they should follow the safety advice of “Run, Hide and Report” to ensure their own safety in the event of violent attacks.

The exercise simulated that several persons with sharp weapons broke into the school for attack and arson. PTU officers arrived at the scene swiftly and made immediate tactical intervention. Eventually, they subdued all the suspects and evacuated all the teachers and students in a safe and orderly manner. In addition to further improving the Force’s communication and response capabilities in handling terrorist attacks and testing the collaboration capabilities of various frontline units, this exercise also helped enhance the anti-terrorism awareness of the participating teachers and students.
