Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) officers arranged the local members of YTDIST Junior Police Call (JPC) and non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) members of Project Gemstone to work with the officers on a voluntary basis to set up information booths at three locations in Tsim Sha Tsui on October 1, the day when the National Day Fireworks Display was held. With the languages in which they were proficient, the volunteers provided information on road closure while handing out anti-deception and crime prevention leaflets and souvenirs to the public. The volunteer service facilitated not only crowd control in YTDIST but also co-operation among local teenagers of YTDIST JPC and NEC members of Project Gemstone for promoting police-public collaboration and disseminating crime prevention messages.
