In response to World Animal Day on October 4, the Animal Watchers Programme (AWP) initiated the “Hang-in-there” Charity Challenge in October. For every second that participating citizens hung on the horizontal bar at challenge stations set up in Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories, AWP would donate $10 to Hong Kong Homeless Dog Shelter.

The launching ceremony took place at the International Finance Centre Mall on October 7. In addition to Commissioner Siu Chak-yee and members of the Central Advisory Board (CAB), who served as guests of honour, artistes Rosina Lam and Kalok Chow were also present to support the event. The four AWP spokesdogs, namely Sunny, Zander, Goofy, and Happy, interacted with the citizens at the venue as well. Subsequently, flash mob challenges were held in Mong Kok and Tai Po on October 14 and 15 respectively, attracting active participation of around 1 100 citizens. The event not only set a world record for “most people participating in a relay hang-on”, but also raised $100 000 for the Hong Kong Homeless Dog Shelter.
