The Psychological Services Group (PSG) has been serving Force members for 40 years since 1983. To review its past development and exchange with various sectors, PSG hosted its 40th Anniversary Exhibition and Symposium at the Police Headquarters between November 29 and 30.
At the symposium, former police clinical psychologists and incumbent senior police clinical psychologists gathered to review PSG’s development over the past 40 years and discuss how psychological support to Force members and policing could be enhanced and optimised. The symposium also brought together representatives of law enforcement agencies and scholars from Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Singapore to explore the possibility to broaden the application of psychology and behavioral science in policing in Asia. The symposium attracted some 200 participants comprising officers from various government departments and university scholars and students.
The exhibition displayed the 40-year development and academic research initiatives of PSG. In the counselling room mock-up corner, participants could have a taste of counselling session. There was also an exhibition curated by one of the PSG’s long-term working partners, Police Painting and Calligraphy Club, to show the art pieces created by Force members and to promote improving mental health by painting.
Over the past four decades, PSG has been dedicated to provide comprehensive and all-rounded psychological service for Force members, including individual psychological services, psychological support for critical incident, psychological support for large-scale operations, corporate psychological services, crime support and promotion of peer support culture, with a view to supporting policing work, building resilience among Force members and fostering individual growth of colleagues.
