35-year-old Wang Shuo was born in a scholarly family in Dalian. Her mother and grandmother were both teachers. Nevertheless, influenced by the upright image of the Force in Hong Kong movies since she was a child, she determined to be a “Madam” of the Force. More than a decade ago, she came to Hong Kong by herself to pursue her dream after graduating from university.

A long journey starts with a step forward. Wang achieves her goal step by step. Firstly, she enrolled in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2011. After receiving her master’s degree the next year, she got a job as teaching assistant in a primary school. To meet the seven-year requirement for permanent resident status, she worked hard in those years for renewal of her employment so that the first Force entry threshold could be cleared.

Wang admitted that she needed to face many challenges in Hong Kong, including learning Cantonese, as well as adapting to Hong Kong’s hot and humid weather, eating habits and living environment. All difficulties can be overcome. With the help of her colleagues and students in the primary school, she gradually mastered Cantonese and integrated into Hong Kong culture.

Wang became a permanent resident of Hong Kong in 2019. After an eye surgery to rectify her severe short-sightedness, she applied to join the Force in 2022. Despite failure of the first attempt, she encouraged herself, “It’s better late than never.” With the help of a friend who was an auxiliary officer, she improved her physical fitness and polished her interview skills. A year later, she tried again and was successfully admitted to the Force.

Wang achieved what she wanted through struggling for a dozen years. Upon passing-out, she started her police career at Wan Chai Police Station. She understands that people’s livelihood is no small matter. As long as members of the public ask for help, she will do her best to implement the Force’s motto “Serving Hong Kong with Honour, Duty and Loyalty”. She remembers handling an online investment scam case in which the victim from Jiangsu lost a huge sum of money. “Taking note of the informant’s suicidal thoughts while she was giving statement, I spoke to her in Putonghua directly. With our common language, I succeeded in calming her down and getting more clues that could help solve the case.”

With her passionate and helpful personality, Wang hopes to develop along criminal investigation in the future. She encourages more people to join and contribute to the Force, including Mainland people residing in Hong Kong, so that Hong Kong remains one of the safest and most stable societies in the world.
