Typhoon Sam keeps officers busy


Mud wrestling: Officers assist in the clearing of a landslip on Lantau South Road
It was not only the air crash at Chek Lap Kok which kept Police and other rescue services busy during Typhoon Sam on August 22 and 23.

Flooding and landslides were reported throughout Hong Kong causing one death and 15 minor injuries. Police helped evacuate about 400 people from rising flood waters and unstable slopes.

Serious flooding occurred in Sham Tseng and Tsuen Wan Division officers were sent to help evacuate more than 330 residents.

One man died after being buried in mud near his house.

Police were called to help evacuate another 58 people in New Territories North areas where 101 cases of flooding were reported.

Officers were called out to assist at a total of 42 landslides, 192 flood cases, five road closures, 93 collapsed trees and a host of other typhoon-related incidents across the six Regions.

All of this while still maintaining general Police duties and keeping order throughout Hong Kong.
