Marathon charity drive

Long haul: CIB runner Raymond Lau (in blue) scoots through backmarkers in the 12-hour run at the Hong Kong Sports Institute in Sha Tin

Determined Criminal Investigation Bureau runners raised $40,000 for charity in the recent Run With Your Heart 12-hour marathon, the highest amount ever.

A team of 12 headed by CIB Senior Superintendent Raymond Lau Chi-keung, joined a host of other teams to brave cold and inclement conditions to partake in the annual event on Christmas Eve.

All the officers who took part did so in their own time reflecting their determination and support, finishing the gruelling event in good spirits. They secured themselves an added bonus as the $40,000 was the biggest amount ever raised by a single team.

Meanwhile, CIB's Action Plan Working Group, which has helped Bureau officers enjoy a variety of healthy lifestyle activities, recently introduced a new innovation to add to the list of sports competitions between the five CIB Divisions, by turning the Annual Fitness Test into a competition with Divisional and individual awards.

All officers were encouraged to train hard for the competition, which saw one 48-year-old officer complete the 2.4-km run in 9 minutes, 48 seconds.
