CSPs Barry Griffin and Mike Francis with other guests

The Crime Prevention Bureau joined four credit card companies to launch the second phase of the anti-pickpocketing campaign in restaurants, October 31.

The campaign was to remind the public to safeguard their belongings, particularly credit cards. Phase one was launched in May on Hong Kong Island. Some 3,000 menu card holders containing anti-pickpocketing messages will be distributed around New Territories South, Kowloon West and Kowloon East Region restaurants. Some 2,000 seatback covers will also be offered to safeguard customers' belongings.

CPB Senior Inspector (Operations) Sherman Chow, Hong Kong Federation of Restaurants and Related Trades chairman Ng Tak-leung, and credit card company officials launched the campaign at a restaurant in Grand Tower Arcade, Mong Kok.

    Acting District Commander Maria Kong Cheung Chi-lan and Honorary Presidents from the Junior Police Call officiated at the event, which saw prizes presented for fight-crime colouring competitions and singing contests, along with performances from numerous pop singers.

  • The Central and Western District Road Safety Campaign Committee launched its 2000-2001 campaign at the Shun Tak Centre on October 21, with the slogan "speeding and tailgating risks your life".

    Upcoming pop singer Grace Yip Pui-man was appointed road safety ambassador, and sang alongside the Districts' Road Safety Patrol Team youngsters.

    Officiating guests were the Central and Western District Commanders Mike Francis and Barry Griffin, along with Central and Western District Officer and District Council Chairman, Li Chung Mei-yue and Wu Chor-nam.

    Mr Francis and Mr Griffin later held a press briefing on the campaign and traffic accidents in the Districts.

  • A road safety drive organised by New Territories South Traffic and the Kwai Tsing District Council Road Safety Campaign Committee, was held in Kwai Fong's Metroplaza on October 14.

    The event included a pedestrian road safety launch ceremony and a safe driving seminar. Leaflets and souvenirs carrying road safety message were also distributed.

    Officiating guests included Kwai Tsing District Council Chairman Chow Yick-hay, Kwai Tsing Assistant District Officer Hui Kwok-sun, Superintendent Helen Kwong Chen-mee and Road Safety Ambassador Wong Yat-shan.
