Police paddlers make a splash

CP Tsang Yam-pui helps get the fun underway in Stanley

Scores of Force and Junior Police Call members drummed up impressive results in the dragon boat races on June 25.

Scattered showers did little to dampen the police paddlers' thirst for victory. Among them, officers of Marine East and Sai Kung Divisions had a tough fight with two teams from the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in the Inter-Government Department small dragon boat race in Sai Kung. They came third and fourth respectively.

On Hong Kong Island, keen competition was seen in Stanley where Commissioner Tsang Yam-pui opened the event. A team of 34 Western District officers rowed into the final of the Chinese Men's Plate and finished fifth.

Meanwhile, Lantau District, Airport Security Unit, Ma On Shan, Kwai Chung, Tsing Yi, Ngau Tau Kok and Sheung Shui Divisions, Traffic New Territories North, Security Wing and Marine Region jointly formed a team to compete valiantly in Mui Wo.

JPC members also showed their stamina in the Sha Tin event which doubled as an anti-drug abuse drive. Mong Kok beat the seven other JPC teams to take the championship. Two teams of Sha Tin JPC members landed the two runners-up spots.
