Police attach importance to juvenile crime

Police have always accorded high priority in the area of juvenile crime, especially the involvement of youths in drugs and computer-related offences and work closely with members of the public to redress these problems.

Speaking at the Fight Crime Publicity Campaign launch ceremony/Sham Shui Po District Fight Crime Ambassador appointment ceremony held in Kowloon Tong on September 15, Director of Personnel and Training Robin Leung Fung-shun pointed out that to help combat problems associated with delinquent behaviour of young people, the Fight Crime Publicity Campaign 2001/02 would focus on youth crime and computer crime.

This year's fight crime publicity campaign adopts the themes of "a tripartite alliance of parents, schools and Police to prevent juvenile crime" and "computer crime involving youngsters", carrying the slogans: "Join us to fight youth crime" and "Watch out for computer crime" respectively.

"In order to effectively publicise these two themes, Announcements in the Public Interest (APIs) for television broadcast have been specially produced and are reinforced by radio APIs and posters as well as advertisements on buses and in newspapers," Mr Leung noted.

Meanwhile, 70 Sham Shui Po District Fight Crime Ambassadors helping police in the dissemination of the fight crime message received their certificates of appointment during the event.

Other officiating guests at the ceremony included Chief Superintendent Public Relations Wong Doon-yee, Sham Shui Po District Commander Lung Hung-cheuk, SSPO District Fight Crime Committee Chairman Kwok Chun-wah and Fight Crime Committee Publicity Sub-Committee member Chan Hay.
