Road safety - it's in your hands

Police officers recently stepped up publicity to remind pedestrians of the importance of road safety as well as their associated legal responsibilities. The Road Safety Officer of Traffic, Hong Kong Island Region, Senior Inspector Kwok Mei-sum, briefed the media regarding details of the campaign at the junction of Hennessy Road and Canal Road West on August 16.

The event was part of a Hong Kong-wide pedestrian road safety campaign fortnight and saw officers from Police Regional Road Safety Teams in conjunction with Hong Kong Road Safety Patrols participating in the campaign.

The first phase, focusing on education and publicity, was conducted August 12-18. The second phase, conducted from August 19 to 25, saw enforcement action being taken against offenders.

Over the course of the campaign, HKI officers distributed publicity leaflets, presented souvenirs, and issued some 2,700 warnings and 181 summonses to pedestrians breaching traffic rules.
