Correct attitude prevents complaints

A senior officer of the Narcotics Bureau once told me about the roles played by CPC, convincing me that its work was very challenging. Although the impact of CPC's effort might not be felt for the time being, the message of having a correct attitude in the execution of duty does give front-line officers some inspiration regarding their work. I therefore joined the CPC as I was so convinced of its work.

One day, a colleague told me during a chat what he thought and recalled how aggrieved he and his team felt after a long and exhausting surveillance in a particular anti-narcotic operation. However, he turned his anger into strength and kept on working as he realised that the greedy desperado would eventually be apprehended, prosecuted and punished by law. I realised that the officer's persistence and patience had successfully prevented him from "loosing his cool" - thus avoiding an unnecessary complaint.

Being a member of a modern Police force, we must keep pace with times, rid ourselves of undesirable practices and pay more attention to what the public and the criminals think and feel. If we put ourselves in other people's position and look at things from their perspective, we will be able to understand what others think, which in turn will assist us in achieving the goal of keeping complaints to a minimum.
