The eighth New Territories South Regional Race at Shing Mun Reservoir, Tsuen Wan, held on April 4 was a great success, with a record of 148 participants.

Despite rain the day before the race, the event was able to go ahead as scheduled - thanks to the sunny and fine weather on the day itself. The track, about nine kilometres long, commenced from the catchwater of Shing Mun Reservoir, went along the uphill slope to Po Lo Pa and then to the finish line at the Shing Mun Reservoir dam.

Acting NTS Deputy Regional Commander, Mr William Fenton, officiated at the opening ceremony.

As runners were all out to get the championship for their formations, the race was tight. Kwai Tsing District beat Sha Tin District by just one mark, winning the championship for Large Formation.

The Small Formation championship went to 'F' Company of Police Tactical Unit NTS, while the first and second runner-up went to Traffic NTS and Crime NTS respectively.

In the Women's Open, Woman Police Constable Law Ching-man of 'F' Coy, PTU NTS won the first prize in 45 minutes 28 seconds, while overall winner for Men was Police Constable Chan Man-for of Airport Security Unit who finished in 32 minutes 56 seconds.

After the race, NTS Regional Commander, Mr Mike Dowie, gave a speech to thank the support of colleagues from various Districts and presented prizes to the winners. Tsuen Wan District Commander, Mr Austin Kerrigan, and Kwai Tsing District Commander, Mr Leung Lau-on, were guests at the presentation.

The Shing Mun Race for this year is over, but another major sporting event, the 'NTS Regional Sports Day' will be held on October 11. The organising committee is working hard towards this.

The objectives for this year are to uplift the physical fitness of officers, to enhance the team spirit and to strengthen the sense of belonging of officers towards their respective formations.
