The Chinese Processing Support Section of the Information Technology Branch (ITB) has procured a departmental licence of Tze Loi Han Yu Pin Yin Chinese Input Method for use in all Police desktop computers through Local Area Networks.

This should be good news for officers (regular and civilian) who are already familiar with Putonghua, because with this new Chinese input facility, they can input Chinese characters into a computer application more easily and speedily by typing in the Putonghua's phonetic letters of the required characters.

Han Yu Pin Yin Chinese Input Method is considered a great benefit to the Force because many in the Force are now either conversant or in the process of learning Putonghua.

With the introduction of this Chinese input software, together with other input methods that have already been provided including Chang Jei(倉頡輸入法), Quick(速成輸入法), Qcode(快碼輸入法), Canton Pin Yin(廣東拼音輸入法) and GoGo Pen Handwriting System(精品漢筆手寫輸入系統), users should have plenty of input methods to choose from their desktop computers for processing Chinese data and text.

Another added benefit of the method is that users who are learning or who have learnt Putonghua will find it easier to memorize "Han Yu Pin Yin(漢語拼音)", thus making it a handy auxiliary tool for them to master Putonghua in a shorter period of time.

For standalone desktop computer users who are not connected to a Local Area Network, they could easily install the Chinese input method by themselves by accessing the link http://ux37phq.hpf.gov.hk:8088/discus/messages/8622/8622.html to download the software and its installation procedure.
