Forty civic-minded people, including six women, were commended for their bravery in fighting crime during a Good Citizen Award Presentation Ceremony held on June 14.

They were presented with cheques and certificates for helping Police arrest a total of 40 suspects connected with crimes ranging from robbery to illegal immigration.

Officiating at the ceremony were Director of Operations, Mr Tang King-shing; Fight Crime Committee member, Dr Philemon Choi Yuen-wan; and the Director of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC), Dr Eden Woon.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Choi commended the award recipients for their courage, alertness and resolve. He said they had set a good example for other members of the community.

Dr Woon told the gathering that the HKGCC attached great importance to Hong Kong's stability and prosperity. He said that Police-community cooperation was instrumental in the fight against crime.

Dr Woon praised the recipients for their bravery and said that the Chamber would lend its full support to the Police in maintaining law and order.

The Good Citizen Award Presentation Ceremony, held twice a year, was organised by the Police Public Relations Branch with sponsorship from the HKGCC.

Since the scheme was launched in 1973, some 3,000 citizens had been commended for bravery.
