About 300 Force athletes participated in the Police Athletics Championships 2002 held in March at the Wan Chai Athletics Stadium.

Despite warm and humid conditions, the annual meet kicked off with the men's 10,000 metres race.

Forty runners from the three age categories took part in the long distance event, which was dominated from the start by PTU and ASU athletes.

However, Station Sergeant Lo Wai-keung of Wanchai Division, in the veteran category (over 45 years), kept up with the pace of his younger colleagues throughout the gruelling race. Finally, it was Sergeant Wong Wing-kuen from PTU Headquarters who finished first in a time of 35minutes 19seconds.

The fastest man in the Force is Police Constable Wong Wai-pan of EU HKI. He clocked 10.78seconds in the 100 metres dash - just a fraction of a second above the record.

In the field events, the honours went to Police Constable Ng Tai-wai of EU HKI, who cleared 1.74 metres in the high jump meet, and Police Constable Lo Siu-pan, also from EU HKI, who won the long and triple jump events by leaping 6.29 metres and 12.32 metres respectively.

The strongest man in the Force is Senior Inspector Barry Truhol of YTDIST. His shot putt throw, measuring 10.30 metres, was nearly a metre more than his nearest rival's effort.

The 4x100 metres relay was won by EU HKI in a very close finish with APT District. And the 4x100 metres inter-departmental relay was won by Fire Services Department.

PTU won the Major formation trophy while Eastern District won the Minor formation trophy.

Acting Commissioner, Mr LAU Yuk-kuen, was the guest of honour and presented the trophies to the winners.
