Next year's Dowman Road Race will mark the 50th anniversary of this annual event. It is to take place on Saturday February 8 starting and finishing at Pak Tam Chung, just inside the entrance to Sai Kung East Country Park.

Planning & Development Branch Senior Superintendent, Mr Stuart McDouall, the Police Athletics Club Chairman, told OffBeat about plans for the event.

"The Assistant Commissioner, Mr Mike Dowie, who is Chairman of the Police Sports Council, will start the 12 kilometer road race at 10am, and the Commissioner, Mr Tsang Yam-pui, as guest-of-honour, will present trophies at the end of the race," said Mr McDouall.

"To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Dowman Road Race there will be a 'T' shirt production, available on the day of the race, and a special edition booklet containing a history of the race. Police Pipers will play at the start of the race and the Police Silver Band will be there to welcome them back at the finish," The continued.

"There will be more trophies to be won than ever before and we look forward to seeing many old faces again, competing in the category for former regular and auxiliary police officers.

"As usual, all those who finish the race will be presented with a special anniversary race certificate but, due to logistical matters, only the first 1,000 runners cross the line will have their race time and position printed on the certificate.

"Water and other refreshments will be available across the road from the finishing point, in the car parking area.

"This year," said Mr McDouall, "we are proposing to lay on private buses from Admiralty MTR Station, Mong Kok Police Station and from one point in the NT, probably Tsuen Wan MTR Station, for the use of participants and spectators."

The race circular and application forms are now available on POINT.
