Squash Finals and AGM
The Police Squash Club staged the finals of the Main Cup, Chairman's Cup and Ladies Cup at Police Officers' Club Squash Courts on May 22. The final of the main competition was between Mr Carven Ng Chi-ho and the Police Squash Club Vice-Chairman Mr Peter Barnes. Mr Ng won in games 9-3, 7-9, 9-4, and 9-2.
The main Plate Competition was between Mr Sammy Ng Wai-kwong and Mr Jimmy Lau Kwong-hoi with the former winning by 9-7, 9-5, 9-4. In the final of the Chairman's Cup, Mr Li Kin-wah beat Mr Chan Hok-ming 9-6, 10-8, 9-3 in a fiercely contested match that saw many long rallies. The Chairman's Plate was won by the Police Squash Club Chairman, Mr Kenny Ip, who defeated Mr Yuen Wai-cheong in three straight games. However, Mr Yuen must be congratulated for beating many other strong players before reaching the final.
The Ladies Cup Final was between Ms Cecilia Siu Ching-man and Ms Yuen Suk-ting. Ms Siu, the defending champion, won the trophy by beating her opponent by 3-0.
The worthy winner of our annual trophy 'Player of the Year' award went to Mr Kwong Cheuk-kong who was complimented for his active engagement in promoting squash. While being an active squash player, he had acted in the role of Police Team 5's convenor for the last three years. Under his leadership, Team 5 became the 1st runner-up in 2002/03 winter league and the play-offs thereafter.
Presentation of prizes took place after the AGM which was held in the POC History Room with the following people being elected as the committee members for the coming year: Chairman - NB CSP Mr Ip Lau-chuen; Vice-Chairman & Social Convenor - KW PTU 'B' Coy Cdr Mr Peter Barnes; Treasurer - SW SP Mr Choy Yuk-kwong; Secretary - MWDIV ADVC (ADM) Mr Tsui Chung-wai; Uniform & Equipment - NTN T RMO Mr Chiu Ho-wah, and Training & Development - STDIV ADO Mr Leung Chi-man.
The prizes were presented by Chairman Mr Ip Lau-chuen and Vice-Chairman Mr Peter Barnes.
