Whilst Hong Kong's drug problem is not as serious as many other places, in recent years the rise in psychotropic substance abuse has been a concern. Nowadays, few families can claim to be immune from their youngsters coming under peer pressure to experiment with drugs, especially the so-called 'party drugs' like ecstasy and ketamine.

With a view to promoting family education, Staff Relations Group will be holding an 'Anti-Drugs Carnival' in partnership with the Narcotics Bureau, the Government Secretariat Narcotics Division, the Society for the Aid & Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers and the Police Staff Associations. The event will take place at the Police Sports & Recreation Club on Saturday, August 9, and will provide information to parents and children about the very real dangers of becoming mixed up in drug abuse.

Apart from the serious message about the consequences of drug abuse, the Police Dog Unit will give a display. Other activities will include interactive computer games, topical video shows, game booths and creative painting areas that younger children will be sure to enjoy. It will be a fun and meaningful family activity for everybody.

Enquiries about the carnival can be made with CIP SR on 2866-7427 or 2866-7819.
